I hiked around Mount Misery, today. Mount Misery is not a mountain, more of a glorified hill. There is no view from the top, but the slope breaks the monotony of flat ... flat... flat... walking. So far, Connecticut hiking is far superior to Massachusetts hiking; clearly I am located too far east in the state.
It was fun to get a view of the Sudbury River. Except for the big sign that warned against eating its mercury-loaded fish, posted in English, Spanish, and I think Thai.

Wilson Mountain - ??
Wilson Mountain - ??

I went for a little hike around Wilson Mountain Reservation today... lots of lady's slippers flowering there, now.
I took the green loop trail counterclockwise. Right near the trailhead coming out, it looks like a tornado came through. I wonder if this is a natural disaster or manmade? I was a little nervous hiking through for fear something might fall on me! [Come to think of it, this is a little bit what my apartment looks like right now.]
my new Sigg bottles
my new Sigg bottles

For years, I've been hunting for a good plastic bottle for toting around water at work, to bring on hikes, etc. It's one of those things that seemed like a good idea, but I just never got around to it. Instead, I tended to buy bottled water and reuse the bottles for a few days.
All the recent talk about problems with plastic bottles caused me to look at the plastic bottles I've been using with more distaste. Coincidentally, Skwigg blogged about her new Sigg bottle. I was hooked! A lightweight, non-plastic bottle with cool designs... I've been hunting for one, since then.
Today, I found the motherload of Sigg bottles at my grocery store! They had three cool designs that I coveted, so I bought all three. Twenty bucks a pop. I hope they last forever... and that there are no discoveries about aluminum leaching out into my drinking water. According to mysigg.com, it's all good but can you really believe that? Is mysigg.com even affiliated with Sigg?
No matter, I'm pretty happy with the new bottles, though I've yet to take one for a test run.

Tank forty-nine
Screen mileage: 55.1 mpg. Tank mileage: 52.1 mpg.
This tank was almost entirely used on two long, four-hour highway drives. I tanked up just before leaving. That was tank forty-eight, but I lost my receipt. If I ever find it, I'll record that info too. [I found it!]

Screen mileage: 56.4 mpg. Tank mileage: 61.9 mpg.
I found my receipt. Weird, the tank mileage is usually lower than the screen mileage, but not this time.

curtain

I've been in my new apartment for two weeks, and I finally got around to hanging a curtain across my window today.
I really needed a darkening curtain across the bedroom window because there's a bright light directly outside, which makes it impossible to sleep well. I already had some navy curtains from my last apartment. That place had the same problem.
When I first moved in, my temporary fix was to prop one of my curtains up in the window using a set of crossbars made from pieces of my futon frame. I hung the curtain sideways, and it fit reasonably well that way.
Today I made the thing more permanent and official with a curtain rod. I didn't buy a new curtain, since the current one seems to be sufficient.
Such progress! At this rate, I may actually be settled in by the time I have to move again.

After my first shower in my new apartment last week, I was determined to get a new shower head. The one that was installed was a real piece of junk, something you might find at a campground. It inefficiently gave a weak spray in all directions. My shower probably took twice as long as usual, and wasted a lot of water since the spray was too wide and there was no way to adjust it.
I've lived in several apartments, and never went to the effort of buying myself a new shower head, so this was a first for me... I went to BB&B and found a small but confusing variety of shower heads. I recognized a Waterpik from my previous apartment, but I'd never really liked that. I decided on the Delta 5-Spray shower head, which seemed to have the spray pattern I wanted based on the configuration of the holes.
It was cheap, $20, and easy to install. I did not use Teflon tape as they suggested, and despite that there's no leaking. And it works just the way I want. I'm very happy! The shower is a major factor in my apartment satisfaction quotient, which has increased substantially today.

I've been keeping most of my stuff in storage until I got a new apartment. Well, it finally happened. Last weekend I moved all my stuff into my new digs. I had only the help of my sister. It was impressive, even if I do say so myself. We're two petite gals, but we both do weight training. It was a huge cost saving, doing it this way. I owe my sister big-time!
