I hiked up to North Kinsman, via the Mt Kinsman Trail. The hike was about 7.6 miles total, in a speedy 5 h 15 min.

Sadly there was no view at the top - it was entirely obscured by clouds. But I got this nice shot from Bald Peak on the way back down.

North Kinsman is my seventh 4000-footer, with the summit at 4293 feet. The climb was one of the more reasonable ones so far. I would have gone on to South Kinsman, but rain was threatening.

Tank one hundred and thirty

Total miles: 45698. Trip miles: 402. Gallons: 7.459. Price per gallon: $2.759.

Screen mileage: N/A. Tank mileage: 53.9 mpg.

Filled up after finally getting the car back from the auto body shop. The screen mileage had been reset so I don't have that available. Everything else has been computed from the odometer reading.

got bored (rated 3 stars)

The message: You shouldn’t eat processed foods, they’re not all that good for you. Well, duh! It’s not that there’s anything wrong with In Defense of Food, but the content is not exactly news. I don’t feel like I got anything out of it that I didn’t know already.

I took the same hike this morning as I did on May 15 of this year, from Headquarters Path to Rt 28 and back, at Blue Hills Reservation. This is probably my favorite section of the Skyline Trail.

I started out around 8 am, carrying a pack weighing 20 lbs. This was a maintenance session. I haven't been able to do as much backpacking as I'd like this summer. But, I need to stay in shape since I hope for more opportunity later in the season.

My hiking rate was slower this time, because I was carrying a pack. But I'm pretty happy getting almost 2 mph. It was a very comfortable pace, and I didn't get blisters. I didn't feel tired at all once I finished. It helped a lot that there were cool breezes blowing every now and then.

No bugs in sight, either.
