granary burial ground

We took a walk along part of the Freedom Trail. There are several old cemeteries along the trail, in which rest some historically important people. This is a tombstone at the Granary Burial Ground. The tombstones here are really neat, many of them engraved with skulls of some sort.

In keeping with the Halloween theme, we visited some cemeteries in Boston on Sunday. This is the Central Burying Ground on Boston Common.

memorial benches

After passing the small cemetery to the south of Barre Falls dam, I entered the woods again with some trepidation. It was justified. This area had the worst swarming of mosquitoes yet!

I got a break a mile later when the trail burst into a bright sunny area adjacent to a swamp. These two benches welcomed my weary body. And once again the mosquitoes faded away.

One of the benches is dedicated to Bob Elms, the other to Rolf Larsen, two champions of the Midstate Trail.

This little grave is adjacent to the farmland off Bragg Hill Road. The marker reads

OVERTIME
BORN 1979
DIED 2001
I wish I knew the story behind that!

When I arrived at Rt 12, I noticed a little plaque on a large boulder across the road, so of course I had to go check it out. It's kind of sweet. It reads:

THIS TABLET IS PLACED HERE
IN MEMORY OF
SARAH WHITNEY ADAMS
WHO WAS BORN AND LIVED
MOST OF HER LONG LIFE
IN THIS VICINITY
BY A DEVOTED SON
A.D. 1913

Just after crossing Rt 109, you come to this little stone memorial. It reads:

IN MEMORY OF KEVIN ELLIOTT
1959 - 1992
"PRAY FOR WIND"
GIVEN BY HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS

There's a white seashell on the top of the rock, and a bouquet of plastic roses to one side.
