I went for a one hour hike behind the DeCordova today. Before going in, I stopped for a visit at my totally favorite sculpture in the park, Rick Brown's "Butterfly Effect". It has changed quite a lot since the last time I was there.

Last weekend - Halloween - my sister came for a visit. We went over to the DeCordova sculpture garden. The weather was fantastic, nice and warm, except for some insanely blustery winds.

Today I hiked for 2.75 hours, about 5 miles at Blue Hills Reservation. I hadn't seen this graffiti art before. It can be found along Accord Path. Weird, interesting! What does it mean?

I did another hike starting from the DeCordova today. Had to go take another look at Butterfly Effect. I like the look of the concrete as it starts to dry out.
Listening Stone is not one of my favorites, but yesterday I found it weirdly mesmerizing. The bright red autumn colors are in stark contrast to the stone, which makes this view more interesting to me.
I went for a hike yesterday in Lincoln Woods, starting at the DeCordova. I was very lucky to catch the artist Rick Brown rearranging his sculpture "Butterfly Effect"! At least, I think that's Rick Brown doing the rearranging. Since he was busy I didn't want to interrupt the process by asking him to be sure.
My absolute favorite piece at the DeCordova is Pine Sharks, by Kitty Wales. They're like weird science fiction sharks, able to fly, circling in the air above you.
A friend is in town, so I'm doing the tourist thing. Yesterday, we went to the DeCordova sculpture park and spent almost the entire day there. I love visiting sculpture gardens.
This sculpture is one of my favorites, Reflex, by Michael Hansel. From this angle, it looks like an abstract horse creature rearing up on its hind legs.
I was at the Cambridge Antique Market today. It was an amusing way to spend some time.
There's a big mural on the side of the building depicting various animals: farm (food) animals like chickens, cows, and pigs; pets, like dogs and cats; and lab animals - mice, guinea pigs, monkeys. Various personages are depicted as well, presumably famed, but I would be hard put to name them. The mural reads "We speak for those who can't."
According to CityGuide, the mural is entitled "A Wall of Respect for Animals":
The creation of Somerville artist Be Sargent, the mural depicts 29 leaders and well-known supporters of the animal rights movement. Where else will you find the portraits of Victor Hugo, Gandhi, Brigitte Bardot, Mark Twain, Bob Barker and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, in such close proximity to one another?
My vacation wound down in NYC, with a short visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This is a view of a sculpture and a couple of paintings from the Muriel Kallis Steinberg Newman Collection, now showing there. Definitely worth the trip, it fills numerous rooms with modern paintings, lots of Miro, Klee, Balthus. There's a really beautiful painting by Frankenthaler with salmons, pinks, and blues; a super Pollock; and a few interesting pieces by artists that I'd never heard of before (Esteban Vicente?). I could have spent more time looking around... hope to get back there soon.
